House rules

The neighborhood gained national attention as a young and hip area in the 90s thanks to the soapy drama Melrose Place, set in an apartment complex typical of the area. The remake is now on TV.

There’s a weekly flea market in the parking lot of Fairfax High School on Fairfax and Melrose every Sunday.

Surroundings

With one of the funkiest shopping districts in Los Angeles along Melrose Avenue and a mix of old Hollywood-style stucco bungalows and Mediterranean-style courtyard apartment buildings dating back to the 1920s, the Melrose neighborhood is one of the most walkable in the city. Residents can and do walk down the tree-lined streets to shops, restaurants, coffee shops and theaters.

The neighborhood lies just south of West Hollywood in the city of Los Angeles, stretching along Melrose Avenue and side streets from Highland Avenue on the east to La Cienega Boulevard on the west.

Homes here are more modest than those in nearby West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, but residents still pay for the prime central location and for the relative safety of the neighborhood. The neighborhood is made up of a mix of old Hollywood single family homes and mostly small apartment complexes. Residents tend to be younger Hollywood professionals and young families.
The commercial district on Melrose Avenue includes funky knockoff boutiques on the east end, up to high scale stores on the west end. The east end is a popular walking area, with tattooed tourists and locals shopping for the latest trends.

I had a wonderful stay! The apartment is perfectly maintained and equipped. Donna is really available when need be. When we come back to LA, I will definitely swap this house again and I would strongly recommend it!
